You know Fall in Michigan is around the corner when the leaves are tinged with red and orange, and the days start getting shorter. Detroit is no different. The changing season pushes locals and tourists alike to bring out their flannels and warm jackets, relishing the availability of cinnamon-coated donuts and fresh cider whenever they please. People enjoy the brisk air by finding various activities to participate in, whether that’s beer fests, cider mills, hayrides, Halloween, or other fun-filled endeavors. The Detroit Metropolitan area is brought to life in Fall, and you should brace yourself to carry out traditions in the Detroit way.
Adults and Children alike love to dress up for Halloween, and let’s be honest; there’s no Halloween without the classic trick-or-treating. Visit the Detroit Zoo with your children, which offers a unique trick-or-treating trail fondly known as the ‘Zoo Boo’ every weekend in October.
There’s no reason to feel left out because they also host the ‘Zoo Brew’ in September for adults, featuring samples of beers on their 125-acre grounds. You can also clear your schedule on October 16th to go to Rochester’s ‘Trick-or-Treat Downtown and Halloween Festival’, where local merchants hand out sweets, followed by a Halloween-themed farmer’s market.
Have you been wishing to fly to Germany but don’t have the money for it? Thank God for Oktoberfest because you can grab your stein, put on your lederhosen, and head over to one of the various Oktoberfest events and festivals happening all over the city. Everyone there acts a bit German in the spirit of things, and it’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Munich without much effort or money. We recommend heading to the Dakota Inn to join in on the weekly Oktoberfest celebrations conducted there. Trust us; it’s worth it.
Fall is when the city goes wild for football. There are conversations wherever you turn regarding the sport, and people flaunt their team colors with pride. Since downtown Detroit is the only city nationwide home to four major sports teams, the sports scene bursts alive each Fall.
You can catch a Pistons or Red Wings game at Little Caesar’s Arena or tailgate near the Ford Field to cheer on and support your favorite team.
Are you and your friends looking forward to scary interactions this season? We know just the place: Scarefest Scream Park. It features four haunted attractions that include a forest walk, a haunted maze, a haunted house, and a haunted hayride. You can wander up to a beer tent or set up your own while live music plays in the background at all times.
How excellent do you think your pie eating, seed spitting, or pumpkin rolling skills are? If you’re unsure, attend the Pumpkin Lights and Festival to find out. You can marvel over the light parade when bikes, tractors, and more vehicles pass by. There are also crafts, music, and activities to enjoy at this fall fest.
