Are you ready for the best time of the year? Fall is upon us, and the weather remains warm, but the humidity is reduced considerably. Atlanta’s Fall is unbeatable in the South, introducing apple picking, corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and numerous other endeavors. Start planning your Fall bucket list as the leaves change colors and cover the city. There is a spooky season to be celebrated, Halloween parties to attend, and festivities to be enjoyed at every corner. The season passes by quickly, so make sure to make the most of it while you can.
The Oakland Cemetery, backed by the Oakland Foundation of Atlanta, holds an annual event called Sunday in the Park, where the cemetery’s unique Victorian concept about a garden cemetery is celebrated. Put on a Victorian-era costume and appreciate the event’s crafts, educational demonstrations, and music.
Take a tour through the cemetery with a guide or by yourself. They also offer a Halloween tour that sells out quickly, so reserve tickets beforehand.
There are apple orchards scattered across Atlanta where you can sip on apple cider and take your preferred apple baked goods home. If you’re more on the adventurous side, take a day trip to the small mountainous town of Ellijay- it’s referred to as Georgia’s Apple Capital. Is work so hectic that you’re only free on the weekends? Don’t worry; you have the option of visiting Apple Pickin’ Jubilee, where you can indulge in live entertainment, milk a cow, pick apples, and watch swimming pig races.
Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge contains a bakery and market selling fried pies, fruit pies, fruit pies without sugar, pumpkin pieces, pecan pies as well as cider, hard cider, gifts galore, and wine. You name it; these orchards have it!
What better way to enjoy the pleasant outdoors than by going on a hike with a few friends? Gaze in awe at everything Fall has to offer at the Chattahoochee Nature Center. On Friday and Saturday nights during late October, the Center hosts Halloween Hikes, a night hike for families with a guide. You can sit around a campfire, do some crafts, meet woodland creatures, learn how they live, and much more. We recommend buying tickets in advance.
Ghost tours are probably the most fun activity to partake in for Halloween. While the city isn’t as haunted as some other southern cities, it has a few creepy, interesting ghost stories that’ll make the hair on your arm stand straight. There’s the famous Roswell Ghost Tour in Roswell, Georgia, conducted by professional paranormal investigators who provide you information on forgotten graves built on city parts.
Due to its vast Civil War History, Marietta also has its fair share of ghosts. Book a spot on the Ghosts of Marietta walking tour and get spooked. Want to participate in a tour led by a professional paranormal investigator and psychic medium? Consider taking a road trip to Decatur, Georgia.
